Mack Trucks Adds Lytx Pre-Wired Option for Granite Model
Mack Trucks has expanded the availability of pre-wire options for the Lytx DriveCam to the Mack Granite model. Lytx, formerly DriveCam, Inc., is the leading provider for vehicle telematics which focus on global driver risk management. The Granite is the third Mack medium-duty truck that Mack dealers will be able to offer the pre-wire feature as the TerraPro and LR cabover models also have this option.
The Lytx system includes both forward- and rear-facing cameras and offers video-based coaching and predictive analytics based on individual drivers or trucks. Lytx Video Services gives customers access to continually recorded forward-facing video and optional live video. By adding Lytx, drivers help eliminate operational blind spots that prevent them from maximizing efficiency, productivity and profitability. Pre-wiring allows the Lytx system to be installed easily in a truck’s windshield to record video both in and out of the vehicle.
The addition of this option means that customers with on- and off-road vocational applications will have access to the latest safety solutions. The camera is triggered by events such as delayed response or hard brakes. If an event like this occurs, the camera collects the eight seconds before the incident and four seconds after the incident both inside and outside of the cab and sends it to a designated fleet manager. This will allow for fleet managers to have better insight into the actions of drivers, as well as provide teaching points for the driver to learn from their actions and to review safety protocols. The recorded video can also be used to provide proof of innocence in case of an accident, as well as proof of service or delivery.
“Reducing collisions on the road is the goal,” said Kristin Costas, Director of Product Management at Lytx according to TruckNews.com. She added that Lytx has protected 850,000 drivers across 30 countries. “We identify risky events. We want to boil down behaviors happening in and out of the cab so that fleets can have meaningful conversations with their drivers.”
