Mack Trucks Begins Production of New Medium-Duty Series

Mack Trucks dealers and customers know how robust the OEM’s product lineup already is—and the company is only expanding its offerings. Earlier this summer, Mack Trucks began serial production of the Mack MD Series, meaning there are new medium-duty options for managers of all types of fleets.

Mack Trucks Senior Vice President of North American Sales and Marketing Jonathan Randall is excited to begin reaching even more customers through the medium-duty models. “With these trucks, Mack now offers a complete lineup of Class 6 to 8 vehicles. The Mack MD Series will enable us to meet the needs of those customers desiring Mack’s durability in a lighter weight GVWR configuration.”

$13 Million Investment Establishes New Mack Trucks Manufacturing Facility

Earlier this year, Mack Trucks announced a $13 million investment in its Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) for tooling, equipment, and building improvements. The new funding for the 280,000-square-foot section of the production facility in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, will be dedicated to the manufacturing of the OEM’s MD Series and will generate an estimated 250 new jobs in the area. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam approved $700,000 in grant money for the project.

MackMD Series: Specialized Applications and Enhanced Maneuverability

The new Mack Trucks lineup includes Class 6 and 7 configurations and will round out the company’s full lineup of Class 6–Class 8 vehicles, better meeting the needs of a wide variety of trucking applications. Fleet managers and drivers who require dry van/refrigerated or dump and tank truck applications now have new-and-improved options, as does any truck owner in need of a stake/flatbed vocation.

The MD Series combines the same legendary Mack Trucks toughness with a sharper wheel cut and improved mobility in tight city streets. Its 103-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) length remains an industry-best, and Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) are not required for operation with non-hazardous payloads in the MD6 model. Plus, both the MD6 and MD7 are exempt from the Federal Excise Tax (FET) of 12%. In terms of style, the series’s bold grille and hood aesthetics draw from the Mack Trucks highway model, the Mack Anthem.
