Isuzu Truck Offers Two New Gasoline Engines
We at Nextran Truck Centers take great pride in doing whatever it takes to move our customers forward. One of the best ways we ensure that happens is to work with OEMs who make it their goal to do the same. As your Isuzu Truck Dealer, we’re thrilled to see Isuzu bring two new gasoline powered trucks to market that raise the bar for Classes 3, 4 and 5.
A New Standard for Power, Efficiency and Eco-Friendliness
Innovation has long been a hallmark of Isuzu. Especially when it comes to its industry-leading N-Series trucks. And their two new engine options not only address future emissions standards, but a rising customer demand for gasoline powered trucks.
The engines include a 6.6-liter V8 that will be available in the Class 3 NPR and Class 4 NPR-HD, as well as a 6.0-liter V8 that will be offered in both the Class 5 17,950-lb. GVWR NQR and the Class 5 19,500-lb. GVWR NRR.
A Proven Design Meets Advanced Technology
Developing the new 6.6-liter V8 powerplant started with Isuzu’s engineers turning to the proven small-block design. Using this as a solid foundation, they incorporated advanced Gen V technology to meet heavy-duty powertrain requirements. The results? Reduced emissions, improved output and efficiency without sacrificing capability and durability.
The NPR Gas and NPR-HD Gas 6.6L V8 highlights include:
- Direct injection for precise fuel control and more complete combustion for greater efficiency
- Variable valve timing improves performance, economy and emissions
- Variable displacement oil pump varies the oil pressure based on engine demand
- Power output of 350-hp and 425 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,800 rpm
- 200,000-mile design life
Both engine offerings will be connected to a proven 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission with double overdrive and a lock-up torque converter, and each engine model will feature a generous 38.6-gallon stainless-steel fuel tank for extended driving ranges. Both Standard Cab (seating for 3) and Crew Cab (seating for 7) models will be available with wheelbases ranging from 109 to 176 inches.
An Engine That Makes History
The new 6.0-liter V8 engine coming to the NQR and NRR Gas models represents the first time Isuzu has offered a gasoline engine in a Class 5 truck. And the NRR Gas will be the very first gas-powered Class 5 low cab forward truck with a 19,500-lb. GVWR in industry history. Once again proving Isuzu’s commitment to innovation.
Built from a Vortec V8 block customized to Isuzu specifications, the powerplant will produce 311-hp and generate 353 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4,150 rpm. Its drivetrain will be a six-speed Allison 1000 RDS transmission with power takeoff and it will offer a large 38.6-gallon stainless-steel fuel tank, same as the NPR and NPR-HD models. The truck will come in Standard Cab or Crew Cab and feature wheelbases ranging from 132.5 to 176 inches.
