Just Announced: 4 New Volvo Semi Trucks Hitting the Global Market

Volvo Trucks recently announced the launch of a new lineup of cabover truck models that will be available in different segments of the global market, including Europe. Customers can get each new model with various cabs and specifications to tailor performance to a particular fleet’s primary function.

Volvo Trucks’ New Lineup Represents a “Big Forward-Looking Investment”

That’s what Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm said, also noting that the four heavy-duty trucks make up approximately two thirds of the company’s deliveries. The OEM’s announcement comes at a time when transportation demand is growing, but there aren’t always enough skilled drivers available. For instance, European estimates indicate that only 80% of all open driver jobs are filled. That’s a huge vacancy, and this new lineup from Volvo Trucks aims, in part, to address the problem for its customers by helping attract the best drivers.

The four new models offer safer features, improved visibility, more efficient systems, better tools for qualified drivers and more. The goal is to create a more comfortable experience for drivers in every aspect of the cab, which becomes a second home to many long-haul drivers.

Breaking Down the Features of Each New Volvo Semi Truck Model

  1. Volvo FH
This is the latest model of Volvo Trucks’ highly successful long-hauler. V-shaped headlights that have been pushed out to align with the cab doors give the truck a bold new look. Advanced safety features include motion-sensor lighting that detects oncoming traffic and then adjusts the high beam accordingly. The electronically controlled brake system (EBS), descent control and improvements to Adaptive Cruise Control provide additional safety measures. Plus, customers have the option of choosing Volvo Dynamic Steering. Finally, the truck’s diesel power meets different emissions standards, and packages are available that can help provide fuel savings of up to 7%.
  2. Volvo FH16
The upgrades to the Volvo flagship include most of the same style updates and safety improvements as the Volvo FH. The FH16 is designed to give drivers and customers the best of both worlds—it successfully manages the most demanding applications while giving drivers their most desired comfort and safety features. Boasting enhanced front-axle load capacity, the FH16 even provides improved maneuverability, thanks to tag and pusher axles with more dynamic steering angles. Once again, engines with different emissions standards generate diesel power for the FH16.
  3. Volvo FM
Volvo Trucks calls the heavy-duty cabover FM the “versatile workhorse.” The V-shaped headlamps optimize the model’s aerodynamics and contribute to its bold new look, much like with the FH. A lowered door line, passenger corner camera and new rear view mirrors mean drivers will enjoy increased visibility. And the redesigned cab and sleeper give the model high marks in the comfort department. Also, like the first two models, the FM is powered by engines with new emissions standards for fuel efficiency.
  4. Volvo FMX
This is the construction truck of the new lineup, and its exterior updates echo those of the first three models. The latest iteration has a completely new cab and increased payloads. Plus, it comes equipped with cutting-edge safety innovations, including a new, standard traction control panel that enables quicker reactions in sudden, high-risk situations. Anti-slip footsteps aid drivers when entering and exiting. Additionally, the FMX represents the heaviest addition to Volvo’s chassis range (a 38-metric-ton bogie accommodates up to 150 metric tons in gross combination weight). Other benefits of enhancements to the FMX include higher front-axle loads and improved maneuverability.
